Subject: [Aquanet] June Theme

Hello Everyone,

All of the entries for the June Theme are terrific. I am busily
working away on mine. A close-up is something I would never have
chosen to do on my own but I am loving the challenge. That is what
I like so much about these monthly themes. They push one to try
something that otherwise wouldn't get done. It's fun!

I had an interesting discussion with a friend who is an award winning
photographer. His work is beautiful! Recently, he started
playing around with photoshop, manipulating his photos in various
ways. His wife, and some of the buyers of his work are not loving
his new approach and he asked for my opinion about experimentation versus
tried and true work. Well, I haven't really sold enough work to
have a client base that might not like my new work but when I do try
different techniques, friends and relatives are quick to state their
opinions. Still, the need to be creative and experiment is there
and needs to be fulfilled.

I advised him to play and enjoy being excited by the new
possibilities. He could do that and still take the photographs that
have been his mainstay. He seemed relieved to be given permission
to have fun!

Have any of you dealt with the dilemma of doing work that you know
will sell versus throwing caution to the winds and venturing out of that
safe zone?

I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences on this
issue.

Regards,
