Very interesting, Cia. I love the bright
colors, and am contemplating what I did in a similar bright water
situation. A very light wash of cobalt blue would tame it down, but do not
cover all of it, just try it close to the rocky edges first..see how it
interacts with the bright yellow/oranges. Leave the glow in center of
the water. Test a little bit first The rocks look pretty
good for shape in the foreground, ..slowly give the base a 'waterline' with mix
of burnt sienna and ultra for shadow away from the bright light .. move
upward for shadow behind the highlighted top of the rocks. At least that
is what I would try. Stop short of painting the entire rocks a color, do a
touch of little greenish and dark lichens at the edge of shadow and the light on
the rocks should blend it all together with little dabs of lichen dancing on the
top.

Trying to do this "water" project for my little teaching
group.... I painted the rocks just as they
were in the ref pic but then
decided for various reasons that they did not work with the
composition.

So I took this to the sink and amazingly they almost came
out of the paper. I'm letting that dry and
will go at it gently with a
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser but very carefully to try to get out more of it,
but I
think that I could paint the water over it and let it seem to be having rocks
under the surface
of the water.

This camera seems to grab yellow and
run away with it, it is not nearly that bright in real life.
If you have any
ideas to share, I surely would welcome them.

Cia
<IMG height=450
