[Aquanet] critique

Annette -- I missed your comment on Sept. 1!   I use RIT dyes which are easy to find in most grocery stores and their colors are surprisingly rich.  The granulation accumulates in the bottom of the mixed dye container and can be eliminated by straining it out, but I like the granulation.  I'm intrigued about finding that balance between control and letting the paints and gravity take over.  Thank you for your comment.  Pat Roshaven

Actually, I wrote the day you put it up Pat, though I know that was near the passing of Cia Price. I wish her family well in their grief.I imagine Cia would be enthusiastic as she always seemed to be—such a champion of painters at every level, exploring every option. And she seemed to remain teachable throughout her life.
Here's what I wrote on September 1 about your expressive and evocative painting. Hope this spurs on the dialogue about our current paintings!
Thank you, Patricia for sharing your richly colored "Leaf by Moonlight." I admire your surrender to the nature of the medium and I particularly enjoy the granulation that appears in the lower part of the leaf shape. The staining colors act much like dyes—do you use Dr. Martin's or another brand?
Your painting begs the question of how to balance composition which requires a certain amount of "control" with the joyous spread of color in our medium. I love pushing the boundaries of this–trying to encourage happy accident while bringing enough structure to the painting that my viewer is not "lost in space!" You've struck a delightful balance and opened up the dialogue at the same time. The title of the painting helps hugely. The colors are rich and evocative. I particularly like the neutral greens that seem to evolve out of the darks.
I look forward to comments about the street scenes as well.

Hello -- I've not heard from any of you yet about my September critique.  Since you are all more experienced than I am at water media, I'm hoping that you can give me some words of wisdom about my work.  And I'm wondering if those of you who knew Cia Price might add something that she might have said about this kind of work.  I know it's not as representational as most of your is, but I'd still like to hear from you.  Thanks!  Pat Roshaven
