Patrick, this is hardly what manganese used to be, however its a
stunningly lovely blue—Sennelier's Cinnerous Blue or Bleu Cindre en
Francais.
I love how light it is—almost a bright cerulean, however it has the
finest of granulation. It seems to be liftable to a point. I've used
it in skies to great affect and it appears to have a coolness that
really works when trying to let something sit back in the
composition. All of Sennelier's paints have a honey base which makes
them especially luscious when used fresh.
You also might look at Daniel Smith's line-up. They're very keen on
working with natural stones and crystals in their pigments. Look at
"Azurite Genuine" and "Sleeping Beauty Turquoise Genuine" at http://
