Hi, gang.

As some of you know, since early February I have been battling trying to
do a painting of the Mision San Javier in Baja California Sur, MX... and
losing miserably. (If you noticed that the price of your w/c paper went
up over this period, I'm to blame with all the failed attempts that
needed replacing)

Finally, I think I have succeeded in capturing the feel of the place as
I experienced it. I used the following palette: mn blue from Holbein,
ult. pink and azo orange, both from Graham. I shall be the first to
admit that this is not a masterpiece nor is it even great art. It may
be, however, the best piece I have ever done and I am inordinately
pleased with it.

At first glance, it appears that the mission is the focus, and maybe it
is; however, when I look at it, my eyes are drawn mostly to the
interplay of orange and blue in the sky and then to the way all three
colours mix and meld and play off each other with granulation in the
background mountains. As I noted, after a long and sometimes
discouraging struggle, I am quite pleased with myself.

PS: The mission is located up in the mountains west of Loreto, BCS along
a very "interesting" road complete with edging up a cliff and much
washboarding. Don't go there in your Porsche!
