[Aquanet] Lots of hats in the room!

I was trained to be an English teacher and I'm a writer, so let me say that whoever wrote you is correct by the book, but that's a pretty minor point. In casual writing and conversation there are a lot of rules that get brushed aside and it really isn't a big deal unless it makes the message confusing.
Perhaps someone was just trying to help you. In any case, with emails flying around the world, many English-as-a-second-language people (ESLs) are, in my opinion, very brave to use their English, even if they sometimes make mistakes. I once could write and speak Spanish and French, but I would be totally embarrassed to try it now. I admire anyone who is willing to try.

I just got off the telephone with someone who called to critique my contribution to the HATS show. Seems I erred by saying the plant was almost as tall as me. If I spoke correct English I would have said was almost as tall as I am .
Being educated in inner city Detroit and being raised by immigrant grandparents, I'm lucky to make any sense. My sincerest apologies to anyone I may offend with my posts to this group!
Maybe I suffer from speaking and writing with my RIGHT BRAIN? ; )
Anyway, thanks Raymond for allowing me the chance to display my artwork.
