Teaching is a great way to grow! You'll be surprised how much you will learn
from your students.

Here is the current payment plan that is working for me in my studio where
there is not additional cost for renting the space for each class.

Private/Semi-Private (for one or two people splitting the fee) is $60/hr
with a min of 2 hours required per session.

Semi-private with 3-5 people is $30/hr for each student with a min of 2
hours required

A deposit of $120 is required when booking a private class. I will provide
the supplies for a usage fee ($20 each student) if they are totally new to
watercolor and don't already have supplies.

I've never offered private classes in a series, usually just a couple of
private lessons to ready them for group classes.

6 or more are considered a group -- $35 each for up to 3 hours

My weekly classes are $35 for a 3 hour class. Paid in Advance usually by the
month

(This averages out to $10-$12/hour class with one photo handout included)

Additional printed handouts are $2/$3 each depending on size and the student
has to option to pay to keep them or just use them during the class and not
keep them. Most students purchase the photos to complete their started
paintings.

Drop-ins are welcome @$40/class Most gladly pay in advance to save $5

Workshops are $55/day in advance or $60/day at the door

In my studio space I do have a minimum requirement of 6 students for a class
to make (with a max of 15) for most classes.

For classes at other facilities the cost of the rental is divided by the
number of students and added to my base fees.

When I do a class for an art group or organization I my basic fee is
$400/day plus travel expenses. If you have 10 participating students that's
about $40 each (or for 20 students $20 each) plus whatever the organization
needs to add to cover their room cost and advertizing etc.

I hope that helps! Good luck!

Keep those brushes wet!

Subject: [Aquanet] info on classes

Hi gang,

I need some information from all you art teachers out there. I was approach
many times to give watercolour lessons in my area. I have already given
some drawing and watercolour lessons but it was always to people I know
(read: no charge!!!). I have always hesitated about doing this at large but
I am thinking of starting in the Fall. Now for the hard part, how much can
I charge for the different type of lessons?

Private lessons: only one student in my studio (supplies not included in the
cost). I was thinking of giving either 2 or 3 hours (what do you think is
best?) lesson for a total of 10 lessons (20 or 30 hours). What would be the
average rate for this?

Semi-private lessons: three or four students in my studio (supplies not
included in the cost). I was thinking of giving either 2 or 3 hours lesson
for a total of 10 lessons (20 or 30 hours). What would be the average rate
for this?

Group classes: 10 to 15 students. These classes could be in schools as an
after school activity, for the city or in retirement centers. For the
retirement centers, I was thinking of 2 hours maximum per lesson. The
supplies would be furnished by the center (I would give them a list). I
wouldn't charge the students but the center would be offering this activity
to their residents. So I need to now what is the normal price per hour that
teachers charge for these types of classes.

Thank you for taking the time and effort to respond to this e-mail.

Have a nice day!
