[Aquanet] Soto technique?

I live in the far north and so to get teachers here is a challenge. I am known as the video/dvd queen. So I got Penny Soto's vhs tape. I used my own set up and did the whole thing while I watched her step for step.

http://pennysoto.com/

She has a two step process. The first step is what she calls underpainting. She takes images and saturates them using photoshop (or similar progam) to see the colours that are "underneath" the items. Hmmm. I have step by step images on facebook but no where else.

I see that the video doesn't seem to be available anymore. http://www.ccpvideos.com/

The cherries have yellow, purple, orange, ultramarine blue and so on as the underpainting and then alizarin on the shadow side and cad red on the sunlit side. She scrubs and does all manners of interesting ways to manipulate the paint.

I am not very good at explaining. She does have a book which is great but a book is never as good as a video is.

My main medium is quilting and I finally started a watercolour group in 2006 so that I could learn to paint. After I began to learn I had to toss most of the stuff I bought before I knew better. ;-) I don't get much time to paint as I have a solo show to prep for at the local museum for 2011...quilting takes a long time, especially the work I do.

The reason that this is the largest painting is that I have only done about 15 paintings...I started with bookmarks, then I worked to 8x10 and to 1/4 sheet size. I needed to build my patience level.

Thanks all for the comments.

I have a few of my paintings on my website. www.dancingravenstudio.ca I think my husband has put the recent ones under the New catagorie. He has just taken over updating my website much to my delight!

I too, would like to know more about this
technique! Your painting of Cherries and Lace is so very beautiful and I
love the intense colors! Mary Lewis
