I loved this little treatise on hats!  Thanks, Pat, for all this food for thought.  I really could relate to your last paragraph about a hat providing an identity, for when I put on my oilskin Australian rainhat, I instantly become a cowgirl, bow-legged swagger and all! 



Can't wait to see everyone's interpretation.
