[Aquanet] Hail to Hats

I'm not talking about the fine art world, so no fear.
But hats, like other things, go in and out of fashion, both as headgear and
as paintings. Think back a few years, and recall that the big thing was
"SouthWest" art, which meant anything with a mainland Native American theme,
cactus, and a certain triad of colours. Go back further, and there was a
period where frogs, mushrooms, cute mice, unicorns or other items held sway
in the commercial world of design. People were convinced they needed or
wanted items with these things, from notebooks and wastepaper baskets to
stationary and wrapping paper.
Hats and shoes went through recently, and didn't make much of a ripple this
time around. If I was still in Tropic Texas at South Padre Island, I could
paint a Charro sombrero and it would sell locally -- for anyone who doesn't
know what this outfit looks like, Google Emiliano Zapata photos and you will
see. The sombrero in Tamaulipas is now usually made of velvet covering,
with spangle/sequin embroidery; done right, it can weigh more than a couple
of pounds by itself, but is an impressive piece all by itself, never mind
the rest of the outfit.
However, in the area where I am now, there's absolutely no call for anything
like this.
