[Aquanet] Critique

I too love the colors that you used to paint the rocks. That is what I like best in watercolor. How different colors can give a result in such a different way: it is magic!

Great work!

Its great to hear "the color is glorious" when I'm painting black rocks! Isn't that the best thing about watercolor? I love the transparencies that we can achieve. I'm trying to do the same in oil now but was really taught "alla prima" painting so that watercolor is such a relief to go back to. I particularly like the play of quinacridone gold layered over indanthrone blue or thalo green for sparkly affects. And the warm layers of alizarin with the quin gold holds the light in the hot spots. Hawai'i has plenty of those!

Nice to hear from you! Thank you. This is my first time offering a painting for the monthly critique in my seven years with Aquanet!

    Annette,
Your painting is awesome. The color is glorious and the values well placed. I can feel the immensity of the rock formations in relation to the bus or train.

Thanks for your feed-back, Raymond. The scale is hard to comprehend as it was when I was there. have received your comment and one other which are valuable so I trust everyone is painting right now. Or out enjoying a summer vacation. I'll send in a waterfall sometime soon and thank you again for keeping Aquanet flourishing.

      All the best,

      Annette

        Hi Annette
I could not agree more about the lack of human scale - I could picture either a leaf or a troop of hikers in the shadow of that rock/boulder in the lower right. And the reflected light at the junction of the stone and the ground is beautiful.
I wonder if I would have imagined those two different scales if you had not pointed it out in your commentary, I honestly don't know.
