I do not worry all that much about things being archival, and would certainly point out that people have been staining with different things for centuries, tea being one [at one point, I can almost see some ancient cartographer berating another because he just spilt tea on the newest map] But if this is a consideration, why not just mix a tea colour and soak the paper in it? I'm thinking some umber and gold lake or Q. gold, plus maybe a dash of green?

Hi Miriam
I met an Artist at an outdoor Art show a few weeks ago and he worked on tea stained AND coffee stained paper.
It was gorgeous work. The watercolors were of butterflies, dragonflies, and other wildlife.
I didn't get a chance to ask him very many questions...only how he got the results. I picked up his card and found his web site. He said he would welcome any questions via email. His card read 'Artist of Nature'.
His name is Bill Scott (San Antonio, Tx).

What are the thoughts on tea staining paper?
Will the acid in the tea deteriorate the artwork?
I am trying to research this but the evidence is that
