Yeah Pat! I agree with all your statements. I have hammered away for
years about plagiarizing others photos or design ideas. I learned the
folly of this early on when I was offered first prize for a painting done
in a class , copying the instructors specific directions. I could not
accept it and then realized I could not sell the painting as mine either.
From that day on I have painted from life, from on spot sketches, from
visions in my head. I take photos for reference but never just copy them.
I think almost everyone who saw that painting at AWS was puzzled since
it was so obviously not done from life.
I think the concept of uniform pictures on one theme is excellent., but
think some with more color will make it less monotonous. You might hang
the pictures in groups of 4, 5 , or 6 , with close ups of different
subjects, ie corners of parks, urns of flowers. My recollection of your
country is that window boxes and plantings of flowers are everywhere. I
have just hung 55 paintings at Eisenhower Hall at West Point on the theme
"Along the Hudson". My good intentions to paint all summer on this theme
never materialized, so I put in 3 floral paintings to fill the enormous
space. Guess what sold?
