thanks, Patch
I had a wonderful feeling while painting this creek...but we all get to a point where the juices slow down...I agree on the trees on the left, that has been bothering me, but do not know how much pigment to add before 'overdoing' what is so delicate. Thanks, that was my weakest point in the painting, other than tapping a few quiet, movements on the tree on the left, as Lorraine suggested...
thanks, again.
Virginia

I love the play of colours in this painting, the warm/cool combining with
light/shadow to produce exactly that wine-clear air feeling that presages
the Autumn. The brook is marvelous in particular, wending through the
composition as it does, and the 'far' view is as wonderful as the close-up.

If it were mine (and lotsa luck, this is a tough landscape subject!), I'd
add shadows on the undersides of the trees on the right upper side of the
painting, so as to almost equalize the light/shadow/colour play on the left
side of the brook. Somehow, the lack of pigment there makes the near trees
on that side turn into a sort of veil if you look too hard, and says here if
you just rewet and dropped in some darks it would finish it off. It is a
minor thing, however, as for the rest, it is one of those wonderful
paintings that 'takes you there'. Autumn is an interesting concept, and I
think you got it all, the light change as well as the colours coming on.
