Hello Phyllis- If you¹re looking for a weekend 2 day workshop you may want
to start with contacting local artists instructors that can drive up for the
weekend. When you start bringing in artist from afar, then you are talking
plane tickets, hotel transportation and the classes start getting a bit more
expensive. You can also send out the word that if any instructors are out
your way doing week long workshops, that they could stop in for a day or 2
and they could conduct a demo or class and your club wouldn¹t have as many
of the big costs. I did that once while doing a workshop in Maine, I went
over to Acadia and gave a demo for the http://www.acadiaworkshopcenter.com
And it all worked out great.

Each instructor has their own fees and you will have to ask each one what
they charge and what they require. Many clubs around my area have a fixed
amount that they spend for demonstrators to come in on the clubs monthly
meetings to do a demo. For demos it usually ends up being anywhere from 150
to 400, that¹s in my area. I just drive there give the demo and go home.
Then there are the day, weekend and weeklong workshops that they conduct,
that start at a fixed day fee they can afford, anywhere from 200 to 500 a
day, some big hitters as high as 1000 a day and then some clubs make
adjustments to the class fee so they can afford bringing in the instructor.
Some organizations and instructors do it by per student. Let¹s say the
student pays 100 dollars for a one day class, the instructor gets a
percentage of that fee. The percentage varies but the instructor usually
takes the higher percentage because the clubs aren¹t paying for
transportation or lodging.

Basically, just contact instructors and ask, most I know will work things
out so both club, organization and the instructor are happy in the end.

This summer the last week in July, I and I think Linda Kemp from this list
will be in Vermont doing the Holbein www.vermontartevent.com Website not up
yet.
I could possible be persuaded to come down to Mass and drop in for a demo or
small 1 or 2 day workshop. You can contact me at david at davidrbecker.com

When I first started doing workshops Nita gave me real good advice on what
to expect, so maybe she will chime in and also give good advice here, I know
she has tons of experience on this subject since she has done this a lot
more times then I have.
