[Aquanet] a question of scarlet

Consider Old Holland Vermillion Extra; it is a beautiful bright, red very
warm, almost orange and more transparent than the cadmiums. Although it is
expensive (currently $22 for 18 ml) it has great tinting strength, that is
to say, a little bit goes a long way.

Another good choice not quite as orange or expensive, is Daniel Smith Pyrrol
Scarlet.

In fact these three reds from Daniel Smith may be all you need:
Pyrrol Scarlet similar to cadmium red light or medium
Perylene Red similar to cadmium red deep
Quinacridone Rose bluer like Alizarin Crimson (in fact some of the tubes
labeled Alizarin Crimson are now a quinacridone color).

These reds are all more transparent than the cadmiums.

Subject: [Aquanet] a question of scarlet

Hi, gang.

Mercy me, we are quiet lately! I assume we're all busy creating
masterpieces. In which case, I shan't waste too much of your time, but I
have a quick question: I'm trying to clean up my palette, so to speak,
and I'm trying to find a good scarlet substitute for Cad Red Light.
Graham paints would be my preference, but if that is not available, what
would any of you suggest?
