[Aquanet] July Critique

Many thanks to Patch, Roy in NZ, and Mary for their comments on July
critique painting.  I have been pondering the comments, and will do some
more on the painting (hopefully without over-working it).

Mary, your comment on the difficulty of painting from photos intrigued me.
I'd like to learn more about how to do this successfully.  I know to avoid
simple copying and to put the photo away after a while, and also when I take
my own reference photos I shoot at a focal length of about 110mm
which duplicates the perspective as the eye.  Do you have any references or
ideas on this topic?
