[Aquanet] SunEden

While I like some of the SunEden accessories, I would not recommend their easel. It is very light weight, but also quite flimsy. I returned mine, and they refunded the price without question. I now use an Open Box-M pochade box, which fits onto a standard tripod and have been quite happy with it. I should mention, though, that I use it for acrylics and oil as well as watercolor, and you are limited in size for watercolor- half-sheet at the most, with the largest OpenBox-M. I can give more detail on OpenBox options by direct response, if you want.

You might consider using the SunEden easel attachment (just a board holder), with a quick-release plate that you can attach to your camera tripod of choice (this can be cheap and light, or sturdier and more versatile). The SunEden tray and accessory boxes can fit onto the easel, and you have a pretty versatile outfit. There are also some other accessories available to mate a watercolor board to a tripod. You could also use the SunEden accessories with a so-called "Italian Easel" - a relatively lightweight steel easel with fully adjustable slant, but I think a tripod is more versatile.

I do not recommend a French Easel - they are heavy and troublesome to set up.

Many years ago I received a gift of a Soltek Easel, a very expensive piece of equipment. I tried using it many times but it just never was right for me so I eventually sold it.

Now I want to buy another easel for plein aire work and am looking at the SunEden easel. On their website it looks as though it might be a better choice for watercolor painting.

Has anyone used this easel? Any advice you can offer?

  Thanks,

  Judy
