HI Betul et el
I have been on the list a long time but only started painting a couple of years ago when I started a group here and we bring in teachers. I think you will find the same age phenomenon in quilting as well. They have done studies that showed the average age of a quilter was 50 or so, the average age of a avid "professional" quilter (who spends about 15 hours a week in their studio) is 58 or so. And that the avid quilters which are about 5% of all quilters spend 95% of the 2.3 or 2.4 billion dollars on supplies.
I have to search out that research. I know I have it somewhere.
But I don't fit into the demographics. I have been quilting since I was 27 and I have been avid from the start. I am now 45 and I am now able to diversify into doing watercolour painting. I have time now that my last one is about to leave the nest.
I hope to post a little more often now that I am not a wannabee painter...I have actually finished a few of my own. I put them on my website www.dancingravenstudio.ca under portfolio. I haven't done a lot since quilting is my main medium, but I am feeling more confident in painting.
Talking about quilting...I have a deadline to meet, so I am off.

I also went to the AWS show on Tuesday! I stayed for the demonstration of Domenic di Stefano too...I have one question:I noticed that the majority of the spectators were 50+. I am 59 myself. Do we have any young people in our community, or is watercolors on its way to be extinct after us?All the best,Betul Aydiner--- Orjinal mesaj ---From: Mary E Whitehill To: Cc: Sent: Wed Apr 09 22:30:20 EEST 2008Subject: [Aquanet] Re; WeatherHere in New York we are having the first really spring day, 68 degrees, sunny and the daffodils and blue scillas are blooming in my garden. >From now on i'll be painting all day every day.
