There were a lot of famous artist members in the crowd, Betul. The age
problem may have something to do with the number of years it takes one to
master Watercolor. It may also be due to the fact that those who are
successfully supporting themselves through their art are mainly doing so
by teaching, classes and workshops and are not interested in demos. At
my age I consider anyone under 60 as young.
Watercolor does seem to be waning in popularity with the public, but
judging from the number of workshops given it is still in demand by new
students. A lot of those students are retired, however. Statistics can
be misleading. I think the misconception that watercolor is less
permanent than oil may affect the choice of media. It is actually the
most permanent if only acid free materials are used.

I also went to the AWS show on Tuesday! I stayed for the demonstration of
Domenic di Stefano too...

I have one question:
I noticed that the majority of the spectators were 50+. I am 59 myself.
Do we have any young people in our community, or is watercolors on its
way to be extinct after us?

All the best,

Betul Aydiner

Here in New York we are having the first really spring day, 68 degrees,
sunny and the daffodils and blue scillas are blooming in my garden.
>From now on i'll be painting all day every day. Went to AWS show
yesterday at Salmagundi Club in NYC. Fabulous show. You can get the
entire exhibit on a CD. It was $20 for the program and CD.
Bev, I'm so glad you are ambulatory again. Keep up the therapy and happy
painting again!
