Thanks for the note about Charles Reid.
Absolutely adore his work and there is a workshop near me in Jan.
I think I can take.

Mary,

I am happy my mail reminded you of this nice experience!

Actually, and interestingly, for me at least, I had
already attended a workshop 4 years ago with Charles, during which I had a wonderful
time painting alongside him in Portofino and neighboring fishing villages in
northern Italy, and I thought I learned a lot too, but nothing near what I
experienced this time!

Maybe it's the great people in the group, all
experienced artists, most of them having attended several workshops with
Charles, quite a few being at their sixth one or even seventh one, which made for
a very open and exchange rich atmosphere, maybe it's Charles being as a result even
more candid and specific in his explanation than he already normally is, maybe
it's me having matured as an artist, but I think I have understood much more of
the deeper implications of his way to approach a subject, his process of
drawing and painting and how he handles paint…And I thought I knew, also from
his books and DVDs… Quite humbling…, and thrilling at the same time!

I fully agree with what you say about Bob Genn's
letter, which besides being marvelously written is very informative, and a
quite welcome mind teaser in our somewhat solitary artistic journeys. It is for
me at least, as I understand some find Bob's prose a bit disturbing at time…The
hallmark of something of value if anything!

With kind regards,

Gilles

How Wonderful! I have had a workshop with Charles Reid, but it
was many years ago. That was a great experience and you
are blessed. I also subscribe to Robert Genn's e-mail letter.
I don't always read everything but have replied a few times. It is
amazing that he is both a marvelous artist and philosopher and writes so
well. I received one of those requests for a painting. I knew it
was a scam as the use of first person singular in lower case is a major clue.
When I told him the price he said fine he would mail me a check, but he did not
send an address. When I reminded him that I must have his address he then
gave me the story of having sent too much money by mistake and I would be
advised what to do. My reply to him at that point was simply Forget it! He still didn't give
up and wanted to know what was the matter. Ha!
