[Aquanet] as long as we're thinking travel...

Hi Pat,

May/June is a great season for flowers in all South of France. As for
lavender more specifically, most wild species bloom between June and
end-August, depending on the species. If you are looking for planted
lavender fields though, with the characteristic rows of flowers which can be
seen in a number of paintings, The Place is the south-eastern part of France
(Drome and Provence especially), rather than the south-western part you are
considering. The best period to see these fields in full bloom is towards
the end of June, as the crops start around beginning of July (for the most
part, although it can occur during all of summer depending on the species
and destination of the crop).
But with or without lavender fields, the itinerary you have in mind is a
superb destination for a painting holiday, with loads of picturesque towns
and villages as well as luscious landscape.

Best regards,

Gilles

Hey, gang.

Following the tropical island query, I'll come up with one of my own:
Has anyone on the list travelled in Southern France in May and/or June?
I'm thinking specifically of the area from Limoges south to Bordeaux and
then along the Canal du Midi. What is the weather likely to be like? Are
there flowers blooming? Lavender? (I have no idea when it blooms, but
I've seen photos/paintings of it in S. Fr.)

TIA
pat
