Hi Pat,
I lived for five years in France. I lived in Corsica (French Island in the
Mediterranean) for 2.5 years and in the South of France, near Perpignan
(close to the Spain border on the Mediterranean side) for the other 2.5
years. Many of my watercolours (the landscapes and scenescapes) were made
during this period or from photos and sketches that I took when I was there.
The weather is beautiful at that time of the year. The flowers are in bloom
and the temperature is perfect for travel. Lavender is considered as a
summer flower. You should be able to see some fields in June. The region
of Provence is best knowed for these fields. The flowers are used in
perfumes, essential oils and even in the kitchen. You will find the dried
flowers in little bags that you can put in your linen closet and in your
drawers. In June, it starts to be pretty hot especially towards the end of
June. I found that the light is just gorgeous in May. If you are near the
mountains, they become almost purple when the sun sets. The locals are glad
to see you since the peak season for tourism is in July and August (the
worst months to be travelling in Europe, in my opinion).
Enjoy your trip and take plenty of pictures, the scenery is breathtaking!
