 I buy the kind that comes in a "pen" You squeeze it out and there is a cap with a needle. It doesn't dry out and I don;t ruin my brushes when I use it.

If you do not use it, you lose it.  Once it 
sets, it cannot be used anymore.  At least that is what I have found 
out.
