I use Rembrandt Talens Sap Green, very luminous, permanent and properties are excellent (diffuse beaucoup)

Talens Rembrandt pigments stays moist in your palette

  Bonjour,

In a workshop, I was told that some brands of sap green were not permanent and change with time. So I tried Graham's sap green. The green apeared '' grisâtre'' and not luminous.

Well, I will follow your suggestion and mix my own sap green.

  Thank you,

  Renée

Sap greens are "convenience mixtures", like Hooker's Green, etc., and vary quite a lot.

I recommend mixing your own greens; if you want to avoid sullying your yellow, you can squeeze some phthalo green and some quinacridone gold or transparent iron oxide yellow or some other warm yellow, like New Gamboge or Indian Yellow, into the same compartment on your palette and mix them a little with your palette knife.

    M. Graham Sap Green is phthalo green (blue shade) plus PY110 (their new Indian Yellow or Daniel Smith Permanent Yellow Deep)

Daniel Smith Sap Green is phthalo green (blue shade) plus Quin Gold

WN Permanent Sap Green is Phthalo Green (yellow shade) plus PY110

Sennelier Sap Green is Ultramarine Blue plus PY154 (=Winsor Yellow)

Schmincke Sap Green is Phthalo green (BS) plus PY153 (= Daniel Smith or WN New Gamboge or Sennelier Indian Yellow)

So you see there is quite a lot of variation - about the only thing they have in common is that they tend to be somewhat more saturated than a Hooker's Green.

Why not find your own favorite blend and paint it with a little internal variation?

    bonjour Lorraine,

Thank for your positive commentary on my painting. I would like to help you for a better Indian Yellow, but it is not a color I use very often. I just buy a Sap Green from Graham and I don' t like it. Do you have a better suggestion?

    Au plaisir,

    Renée Sirois

      Bonjour

I had my latest surgery in the jaw, hope this one will be the last. I'm still on soft food for more than 10 days to go, I will certainly enjoy a juicy steack to celebrate, if the surgeon approves the results. I'll see him soon for the follow-up visit.

I need your help to find a better INDIAN YELLOW . The one I have is Da Vinci, excellent lightfastness but dries into a too dull result I woud like to improve. I would like it more brilliant, intense, glowing, just like a sunflower's dream, and of course, excellent ratings in lightfastness, transparent or semi-transparent, tell me also the brand and if it granulates. Send your suggestions to the list so many will benefit from your experience.

By the way, just received a tube of Cobalt Teal Blue from Daniel Smith, what a beautiful color, very clear washes, excellent behavior on paper, very different from the greenish look shown in the latest Wilcox Guide.... I love it !!!

I met Renée Sirois (Aquanet member) yesterday in a Painting Presentation at the shopping Mall in Shawinigan. She was doing wonders on a portrait from an oriental lady. The very transparent glazes she was using in her face were very luminous. Congratulations.

Many Thanks in advance for the Indian Yellow .....
