Asunto: [Aquanet] Don Andrews demo

Last night, I spent a very pleasant evening watching Don Andrews do a
figure-painting demonstration at the monthly meeting of our local artist’s
organization. Don is in town for a week-long workshop with our club.
(Unfortunately, due to work conflicts I was unable to attend the workshop).
For those not familiar with Andrews’ work, he’s an outstanding colorist and
well known for his figure work, although he’s equally talented with his
handling of landscapes. One reason I was interested in seeing his demo and
getting to chat with him briefly is that he’s a student of the late Robert
E. Wood, one of my favorite watercolor artists. So, in addition to what I
learned from his demo, Don also shared with me some interesting tidbits
about Wood. (For me, getting a chance to study with Andrews would be akin to
traveling back in time and taking a workshop with Robert E. Wood, which
would be a golden opportunity).

Everyone I spoke with at the meeting who’s taking Don’s workshop had nothing
but rave reviews for it and they were only halfway through the week. So, if
you get a chance to attend a Don Andrews’ workshop, he comes highly
recommended by the folks in my art club. He also has out a new book,
“Interpreting the Landscape in Watercolor,” which I bought last night, but
have only skimmed through. It looks great and I’m looking forward to taking
some quiet time to give it a thorough read.
